I purchased this book months ago in a Ross store; it was intended as a housewarming gift for my sister-in-law (who doesn't cook). After flipping through it and trying a handful of recipes to, ahem, preview it for her, I ended up keeping it. Until now, I haven't been able to find another copy. (Thank you, you've saved Christmas!)
The information in this book is priceless. The recipes are clearly written and easy to follow, covering a wide variety of foods. I bake but have never been big on cooking; this book helped me successfully make Cheese Sauce!
The Victoria Sponge recipe was my first of that type and I loved it. The info on pot roast priceless. Also included are sections on kitchen basics (stocking you cupboard, choosing cook's tools, budgeting, planning menus), a guide to how to store, prepare and cook a range of foods and nutritional info for each recipe.
With beautiful pictures and clear instructions, this book is a must for anyone looking to brush up on (or discover) their cooking skills. I enjoyed Bridget Jones's writing so much that I purchased another of her cookbooks A Cook's Year.
